O Canada/Ô Canada—Quelle Merde De Trump! Part 2

YESTERDAY IN PART 1 WE BEGAN ANALYZING THE BREAKDOWN of Trump’s dealings with our best friend Canada. We continue today with more of the same as reported by The New York Times.

Trump’s FULL-CAPS. “WE DON’T NEED CANADA, THEY NEED US!,” he blustered in his all-caps inanity. The New York Times’ Matina Stevis-Gridneff and Ana Swanson add, “On Monday, after the negotiations collapsed, Mr. Trump vowed to increase tariffs on all cars, trucks, car parts and steel from Canada to 50 percent, starting on Jan. 1. He called Canadian officials ‘clowns’ from ‘among the worst Nations in the World to deal with.’ ”

Really? High praise indeed, what with competition from Putin’s Russia, Xi’s China, and his pal Kim Jong Um’s North Korea. Not to add Netanyahu’s Israel.

 Quelle Merde. Quite rightly, Canadians are saying Trump’s deal-making is not be to trusted. A show of hands, please, of those agreeing.

Oh, and then there’s the debacle of Trump changing the name Lake Ontario to “Lake America.” 

My full marks go to Representative Debbie Dingell, Michigan, Democrat. See Graig Graziosi’s “Michigan Rep Delivers Epic Natalie Harp Dig Over Trump’s Threat to Rename Lake Ontario,” The Independent, August 25, 2026: “ ‘Let’s just call it Lake Natalie so we know you’ll start protecting our Great Lakes,’ Dingell wrote.” Ha!

By the way, I met Debbie’s dad, John D. Dingell, long-time Congressional defender of Motor City matters. I recall he was instrumental in my congressional invitation back in October 1979.

Ralph Nader, who called us “Road & Quack,” questioned automaker ad influence. I countered by offering him a chance to read aloud our May 1979 magazine’s Ad Index. He declined.

What’s Happening with Nader These Days? Wikipedia notes that Ralph Nader, 92, “has been described by The New York Times as a ‘dissident.’ Good for him! And for the NYT.

In particular, see “Ralph Nader: Trump’s 100-Day Attack on Democracy a ‘Fascist Dictatorship’,” Between the Lines, May 7, 2025. Nader says in this interview, “It’s straight out dictatorship and you can see it moving into a police state, kidnapping people on the streets, sending them to El Salvador prisons or Louisiana, no charges. People who are innocent, trying to fight the courts, who are trying to impose the rule of law and habeas corpus.… name one law that Trump respects, other than himself.”

Gee, after all these years Nader and I could sit down and have a most amenable chat!

Whoever is Natalie Harp? She has been a Trump fawner since she was a 26-year-old “influencer,” as they say.

Today, according to Wikipedia, she’s an American political aide and former television anchor who has served as special assistant and executive assistant to the President of the United States since 2025.

Geez, just what we need: another demented “Capitol Tourist.”

According to PBS News, her duties involved being one of those few individuals secreted in Trump’s Airline Catering Truck Caper. 

Hmm…. I’m glad they’re all safe. And that Trump’s New York Times subpoenas (home-delivered) were later withdrawn. ds
