FULL DISCLOSURE: I TOO AM OVER EIGHTY. And while I still recall the opening Prologue to Canterbury Tales (“Whan that Aprille with his shoures soote/The droghte of March hath perced to the roote…. The hooly blisful martir for to seke/That hem hath holpen whan that they were seeke.”), I admit to less than perfect memory about other things: “What was actor Jeff/Tex’s last name?” “Chandler.” “How long do I cook Risotto con Quattro Formaggi?” “17 minutes.” “Where did I put my copy of Curtiss: The Hammondsport Era 1907-1915?” “It’s here somewhere….”
Fortunately, I have people as well as sources to fill in the overlooked information when necessary.
But what of our president? Wouldn’t you think there would be plenty of informed people supporting him?
Then, I ask, how come Trump is “Our National Addled Uncle,” SimanaitisSays, March 26, 2020, and “Addlepated Uncle Don,” June 11, 2025, and “Thanksgiving Dinner With an Addled Uncle,” November 27, 2025, and “Seeking Rationality Among Republicans,” August 9, 2026.
Just asking…. Specifically, to wit:

Who Lost the 2020 Presidential Election? FactCheck, July 17, 2026, reports, “In a July 16 prime-time speech that warned of ‘shocking vulnerabilities in our election infrastructure,’ President Donald Trump cast doubt on the country’s ability to hold ‘free and fair elections’ but offered no evidence that widespread fraud had occurred. He made one reference to never watching ‘a stolen election again,’ but otherwise suggested, rather than outright claimed, that the 2020 election, which he lost, had been ‘rigged,’ as he has often said and has never backed up.”
Who Invaded the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021? Was this merely “a normal tourist visit,” as claimed by Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga.?

Wikipedia offers another view: “On January 6, 2021, the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., was attacked by a mob of supporters of President Donald Trump who sought to keep him in power by preventing a joint session of Congress from counting the Electoral College votes to formalize the victory of then president-elect Joe Biden. The attack was unsuccessful in preventing the certification of the election results. According to the bipartisan House select committee that investigated the incident, the attack was the culmination of a plan by Trump to overturn the election.”

Who Invaded Ukraine in 2014 and 2022? As reported by PBS News, August 18, 2025, “Russia’s illegal seizure of the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine in March 2014 was quick and bloodless, and it sent Moscow’s relations with the West into a downward spiral unseen since the Cold War. It also paved the way for Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, during which Moscow illegally annexed more land from its neighbor.”
This initially brought about the West’s sanctions on Russian oil sales.

What’s Happened Since? “Trump Gives Putin a Hand in Russia’s Economic War with Ukraine,” The New York Times, October 12, 2026: “President Trump is moving to buy Russian diesel while also pressurizing Ukraine to halt attacks on refineries, a lifeblood of Moscow’s war machine.”

Who Brought About This Energy Crisis Anyway? Related questions: Who began the latest Middle East war? Who supposedly soon “obliterated” Iran? Who misjudged resulting actions in the Straits of Hormuz and Bab El Mandeb and the Saudi/Yemeni conflict?

What Might Happen in the Midterms? NBC News reports “Trump Tries New Midterm Message to Supporters: ‘Pretend, Please, That I’m on the Ballot,” August 21, 2026.
For once, I agree with Trump. There is a rare Republican indeed that gets my vote anywhere on the ballot. ds

Another lamentable question: What to say about Trump’s https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/oct/14/william-chapman-family-tiger-attack-online-content-trump-reposts-video Truth Social response to the man’s horrific death at a British animal park? Trump’s actions have long been no longer rational; he is sick, truly sick. — ds
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
With all the wretched, demented, illegal, treasonous things Trumpty Dumpty has said and done over the years, we can only come back to John Cleese’s 2016 observation, after that election, “I think we have to accept that 40 million Americans are morons.”
In other words, Bratman, aka Oswald Cobblepot, Orange Julius, Donald J. Trump, whose only job before occupying and desecrating the White House, was hosting a TV show possible by the notoriety from playing businessman on daddy’s over-leveraged real estate, has shown us that there are that many people who are not just dim and unread, but bigoted, fearful, ready to be led by bluster alone.
This coddled bubble boy has shown us how large a contingent among our nation’s quarter billion citizens of voting age (355 million total population) are benighted, abetted by Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, despite a one-billion-dollar campaign war chest, seeming more focused on LGBTQIA and “When we fight we win;” using sloganeering against someone who can do nothing but, when all they had to say was “we support Americans of any ethnicity and sexuality” and outline a plan. There were and are those realizing Trump is lacking, but imagine Kamala Harris would somehow defund police.
The Trump era has exposed our nation’s equally vile, loathsome core, we realizing Trump is but a symptom, a cheerleader. The Democrat victories in the midterm, and may they be a rout, will reduce Bratman to loudly quacking lame duck, while we must ready ourselves for the GOP/KKK 2.0’s more articulate 2028 presidential candidate.
Pardon this comment’s length, please, but we must understand why and how an oaf like Trump twice gained the Oval Office in order to prevent such recurrence.
As always, we thank the brilliant host of this terrific site of depth, breadth, range for his efforts to shore democracy in the face of very real plutocracy.
