WHO ELSE BUT A RACIST WOULD remove Juneteenth and Martin Luther King’s birthday from previously free days of admittance to National Parks?? What else but an ideologically perverse Interior Department would issue a news release saying that the changes reflected the administration’s “commitment to making national parks more accessible, more affordable and more efficient for the American people”??
Talk about Doublespeak.
And, while I’m about it, who else but an utterly narcissistic Queens Felon would take advantage of his birthday coinciding with Flag Day in adding it as a National Park free day??

This distressing news comes from Gabe Castro-Root’s “National Parks Drop Free Entrance on M.L.K. Day and Juneteenth,” The New York Times, December 8, 2025. “The changes,” Castro-Root writes, “follow previous moves by the Trump administration to take down materials mentioning slavery at national parks and come as part of a broader effort by the White House to erase or play down Black history at government sites.”

To Distract and Divide Us. Castro-Root cites, “Derrick Johnson, the chief executive of the N.A.A.C.P., said in a statement that removing dates recognizing Black history was part of an effort ‘to distract and divide us by undermining progress attributed to the Black community.’ ”

Castro-Roots continues, “Kristen Brengel, senior vice president of government affairs for the National Parks Conservation Association, called the moves ‘extremely disappointing’ and said the holidays ‘commemorate people and stories that are essential to understanding the history of our country.’ ”
Trump’s Previous Remarks. Back in 2018 during the first Trump administration, Laurin Gambino reported “Trump Pans Immigration proposal as bringing people from ‘shithole countries,’ ” The Guardian, January 11, 2018.

Gambino cited that Trump “described El Salvador, Haiti and certain African nations as ‘shithole’ countries during a meeting with lawmakers on Thursday, according to a report.”
Gambino continued, “Trump demanded to know why the US would accept immigrants from these countries rather than places like Norway, whose prime minister he had met the day before.”
Swift and Bipartisan Rebuke. Gambino quoted Congressman Luis Gutiérrez, Democrat from Illinois: “We always knew that President Trump doesn’t like people from certain countries or people of certain colors. We can now we say with 100% confidence that the president is a racist.”
Also cited was Senator Orrin Hatch, Republican of Utah: “I look forward to getting a more detailed explanation regarding the president’s comments. Part of what makes America so special is that we welcome the best and brightest in the world, regardless of their country of origin.”
Alas, it may be Trump’s paternal heritage showing through.
Trump’s Alternative-Fact Protection of South African Whites. Perhaps through the influence of temporary bro/South African zillionaire Elon Musk, Trump has taken on the protection of South African whites, this only 31 years since elimination of apartheid, that country’s brutal control of 92.7 percent of its people by a ruling racist 7.3 percent.
This “protection” is despite South African crime statistics debunking any “white genocide” claims: See the BBC report, May 23, 2025.
Not that veracity has ever deterred Trump’s actions in the past.
And Now It’s Somalia/Somali. José Olivares reports, “Ilhan Omar Call Trump’s anti-Somali Tirade ‘Completely Disgusting,’ ” The Guardian, December 7, 2025. Olivares quotes Congressional Representative Omar: “These are Americans that he is calling ‘garbage.’ I think it is also really important for us to remember that this kind of hateful rhetoric—and this level of dehumanizing—can lead to dangerous actions by people who listen to the president.”
Among his tirades, our Addlepated Uncle said Minnesota’s Somali community should be sent back to Somalia.
Just as he pronounced a similar fate for our country’s Afghan immigrants, largely on the basis of an horrific attack by a single possibly mentally ill Afghan. With analogous logic, how long before Trump demands that all Italian Americans “go back to where they came from” because of Luigi Mangione’s actions? And what about a similar absurdity of sending back all German Americans?? ds

My apology for this late comment, but I was on a southeast Colorado road trip, and am only now catching up on the Simanaitis Says posts I missed.
The irony being that two of my destinations were National Park Service sites certain to be on the receiving end of this administration’s white nationalist revisionism.
The Sand Creek Massacre National Historical Site was where a territorial militia killed friendly and peaceful natives camped out while waiting for relocation orders from the Army in 1864. The result was a shakeup in tribal leaderships that triggered the Plains wars, ending only with the Custer rout and Wounded Knee carnage.
The Amache National Historical Site was one of the ten concentration camps where West Coast populations of Japanese ancestry were unlawfully relocated and interned during the second world war.
Denial isn’t a river in Egypt. I’m glad I made this unseasonal pilgrimage before our history and racist original sin gets whitewashed. Keep up the good work, Dennis!
