TODAY, JANUARY 20, 2021, at noon Eastern Time, 9 a.m. for those of us on the Pacific side, 7 a.m. in Hawaii, we gratefully return to our democracy’s decency, honesty, and trustworthiness.
Here are tidbits about on today’s Inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah!
No Longer Embarrassed. One hurrah for each of the most embarrassing four years in our nation’s history. And that includes episodes with white supremacists like Woodrow Wilson, immoral wackos like Warren G. Harding, and “I am not a crook” personages such as Richard Nixon.
No Longer the World’s Laughing Stock. I celebrate that President Biden, Vice President Harris (working when necessary as a Senate tie-breaker), and others of the new administration will earn the United States prestige lamentably lost through actions and inactions of our National Addled Uncle Trump, his toady Pence (of the housefly coiffure), and the scads of “acting” (i.e., never confirmed) Trump appointees
As noted here at SimanaitisSays in “Reconciliation? Not Quite Yet,” my celebration has a strong taste of Schadenfreude, all the more enhanced by the despicable behavior of Trump and his insurrectionists of January 6, 2021.
Would that Trump slink away to Mar-a-Loco (as columnist Frank Bruni calls it), and the rest of us could eschew cults of ignorance.
Surviving Covid-19 and Other Problems. It’s not enough that medical science helped the world’s most powerful person survive Covid-19. Our new President is committed to the rest of the country surviving as well. And this means medically, economically, and socially.
Other problems confronting us include the Know-Nothing extremes of racism, white supremacy, and QAnon. We celebrate the Biden administration for being committed to countering these. Of course, they’ll also have to deal with VINOs, Republicans who are Vertebrates In Name Only. We celebrate the Mitt Romneys and Liz Cheneys on the other side of the aisle.
History Not Repeating Itself. In retrospect, some see Richard Nixon having acted nobly in his acceptance of John F. Kennedy’s 1960 presidential victory. As described in Wikipedia, “Nixon refused to consider contesting the election, feeling a lengthy controversy would diminish the United States in the eyes of the world and the uncertainty would hurt U.S. interests.”
Gee, imagine that.
Then there was Nixon’s 1972 Watergate scandal and his subsequent 1974 resignation when faced with near-certain impeachment and conviction.
Can one “double-down” on imagining?
In any case, let’s double-down on celebrating today’s Inauguration: Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah! ds

My biggest regret is that even though he’s gone (though I still check my watch for the exact minute), we can never forget – we are forever going to be the country who elected that scum-ball as president. Like being introduced as a former thief or killer.
Denis…you’re wrong! 75M people can’t all be fools. Our dyre enemy Communist China has been giving money to Joe and Hunter for years.
He is proposing unlimited immigration. Look how well that worked out for the UK His election is a tragedy for USA. Grey McGown

Grey,
As you and other readers will recognize, I disagree with your views utterly and completely.
Let us agree that truth will out, unlike the last four years of “alternatve facts”.
Well said, Dennis!
