TRUMP HAS GONE BEYOND THE PALE (AND NOT THE FIRST TIME)

NOT ONLY IS TRUMP A COMMON LIAR, AN OUTLANDISH EGOTIST, AND A RAGING FASCIST, he has gone quite beyond the pale in so many other ways.

Recall the Term “Beyond the Pale.” In “Wrong Words,” November 26, 2012, I observed, “The correct phrase is ‘beyond the pale,’ in the sense of outside a staked territory of security. During the Late Middle Ages, The Pale was that portion of Ireland completely under English rule. The Latin word for ‘stake’ is palus, whence also the word ‘palisade.” 

Most of Ireland in 1450 was “beyond The Pale.” 

Trump’s Asinine Assessment. Zolan Kanno-Youngs and Luke Broadwater report, “Trump Says Irish Unification Would Be ‘Fantastic,’ Breaking With Precedent,” The New York Times, September 12, 2026: “He later seemed to acknowledge that he had stepped into a politically problematic topic.”

“The United States,” The New York Times notes, “has been officially neutral on an issue that was a source of decades of violence in Northern Ireland until a 1998 peace deal.”

Trump was there to attend the Irish Open golf tournament, held at his Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in County Clare. 

He later continued “beyond the pale” about another topic entirely, wind farms in Scotland. Katie Francis reports, “Trump Sets Off Alarm Bells With Incoherent Rant,” Daily Beast, September 13, 2026: “The president has feuded with windmills since losing a UK Supreme Court appeal to block an offshore wind farm from being built near his Aberdeen golf course over a decade ago, but it still seems to be plaguing his mind. ‘No more windmills. If you have a windmill near your house, your house is practically valueless,’ he raged.”

Katie cited, “ ‘Northern Ireland’s constitutional future, brought to you by a golf-course feud with renewable energy,’ one person joked. Another wrote: ‘Sometimes I get the feeling that my President didn’t understand the question, or the answer he just gave to it.’ ‘Just another embarrassing, ignorant comment from a man that is in deep cognitive decline,’ said a third.”

Trump and A.I. Megan Brand reports, “Trump Says A.I. Doesn’t Need Guardrails, Only a ‘High IQ’ President,” NBC News, September 14, 2026.

Just at a time when Garrett Downs reports “Washington Scrambles to Meet Calls for A.I. Guardrails While the Window to Act Closes,” CNBC, September 13, 2026. 

Downs’ key points: “Lawmakers are seeking to address calls for artificial intelligence guardrails after renewed warnings about the technology’s risks.The leaders of top AI frontier companies Anthropic, OpenAI and xAI made stunning admissions in recent days that AI is advancing too fast. House Speaker Mike Johnson is scheduled to send the House home after this week until November’s midterm elections have passed, leaving a narrow window to pass any form of regulation.”

“A STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT”?? Remember Namibia? And covfefe? What about Epstein? What about Trump and EVs? What about the Trump/Netanyahu/Iran war and its Strait of Hormuz “surprise” response? And Trump’s hoax rant at the U.N? And the Arch de Trump? And the Ballroom? And the Reflecting Pool fiasco? And the phony $5000 bribe for a Republican midterm win?
