HOW DO YOU SAY “HALLELUJAH” IN TURKISH?
GOOGLE TRANSLATE SUGGESTS “şükürler olsun” as a Turkish “hallelujah.” Back-translated, though, this literally means “Thank God,” which somehow misses the fervor of Adnan Oktar.
This Turkish Islamic TV evangelist was sentenced on January 11, 2021, to 1075 years in stir. According to bloomberg.com, it’s “for running a decades-old cult whose members were accused of crimes ranging from sexual assault to blackmail, money laundering, and even espionage.”
This guy is evidently more than your run-of-the-televangelist Jim Bakker, Kenneth and Gloria Copeland, Franklin Graham, or Pat Robertson, among those suggested by usatoday.com, June 17, 2019.
One picture says it all. Hallelujah, or whatever one says in Turkish.
Apparently Justice is Slow in the East. According to Hürriyet Daily News, January 11, 2021, “Oktar, also known as Harun Yahya, had been tried with 235 other defendants in an Istanbul court. The verdict and sentence came after a previous trial that began in September 2019 after Oktar was arrested in July 2018.”
His Own TV Station. Oktar’s online A9 television channel began broadcasting in 2011; Turkish religious leaders were not amused. According to wionews.com, January 11, 2021, “Oktar first came to public attention in the 1990s when he was the leader of a sect that was caught up in multiple sex scandals.”
WION writes, “Oktar preached conservative views while women he called his ‘kittens’—many of whom appeared to have plastic surgery—danced around him in the TV studio.”
WION continues, “Oktar told the presiding judge in December that he had close to 1000 girlfriends…. ‘There is an overflowing of love in my heart for women. Love is a human quality. It is a quality of a Muslim,’ he said in another hearing in October.”
Creationism (and Anti-Creating). “Oktar is a creationist who rejects the Darwinian theory of evolution,” WION writes, “and had written a 770-page book called ‘The Atlas of Creation’ under the pen name Harun Yahya.”
Also WION notes, “Asked about 69,000 contraception pills found in his home by police, Oktar said they were used to treat skin disorders and menstrual irregularities… He added on another occasion: ‘I am extraordinarily potent.’ ”
