BANKSY LIMITLESS, SORTA

BANKSY, WIKIPEDIA DESCRIBES, “is a pseudonymous England-based street artist, political activist, and film director whose real name and identity remain unconfirmed and the subject of speculation. Active since the 1990s, his satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine dark humour with graffiti executed in a distinctive stencilling technique. His works of political and social commentary have appeared on streets, walls, and bridges throughout the world.”

Also, Banksy has been celebrated here at “Performance Art—Shredder Style,” SimanaitisSays.com, October 11, 2018.

Today, tidbits and images are gleaned from Banksy exhibitions, past, present, and to come, together with a news item concerning British government destruction of the artist’s recent street art.

“Without Limits.”  The Art of Banksy Without Limits is described as showing “more than 160 of the artist’s works such as his original works, prints on different kinds of materials, photos, sculptures, murals, installations, mapping show and many more. A video documentary gives insights into the life and work, all presented in a unique setting. The show promises a genuinely impressing experience and is a ‘must see’ to celebrate Banksy’s art and carry it out into the wider world.”

Previous venues ranged from Istanbul in 2016 to Saskatoon this year. Open now is Perth; coming soon is Edmonton.

And in the imagination, Oz.

“Limitless” in London. Apparently independent of “Without Limit,” Banksy Limitless in London is described as bringing “the edge of street art into an immersive gallery experience created especially for the city. For a limited time, explore hundreds of works by the elusive artist, from originals to large-scale installations. Plus, exclusive pieces reproduced just for this show.”

High points of Banksy Limitless in London include an Infinity Room full of mirrors, Murals “created by a world-class team to convey the spirit of the street artist, including 7 new murals Banksy created in war-torn Ukraine,” and Installations & Sculptures such as the Banksy Cinderella Carriage.

Probing His Majesty’s Government Limits. BBC News “Banksy Mural Scrubbed From Royal Courts of Justice,” September 10, 2025: “The mural,” BBC News recounts, “appeared on an external wall of the Queen’s Building, in the Royal Courts of Justice complex, on Monday. The image depicted a protester lying on the ground holding a blood-spattered placard while a judge, in a wig and gown, looms over him, wielding a gavel.”

This and following images from BBC News.

BBC News continues, “The work has been covered up at various points since it was discovered and guarded by security staff, with the HM Courts & Tribunals Service confirming that it would be removed due to the building being listed and therefore legally protected.”

Above, protective care. Below, scrubbing action.

“Banksy confirmed he was responsible for the work with a post on Instagram, showing the graffiti before it was covered over,” BBC News observes. “It has been interpreted by some as a comment on the arrest of hundreds of people for supporting Palestine Action by holding up placards at protests. Palestine Action was banned by the government as a terrorist group in July after activists damaged RAF planes.”

BBC News recounts, “Banksy’s stencilled graffiti is often critical of government policy, war and capitalism. Last summer, the artist began an animal-themed campaign in the capital of nine works, which concluded with a gorilla appearing to lift up a shutter on the entrance to London Zoo. Other notable works included piranhas swimming on a police sentry box in the City of London, and a howling wolf on a satellite dish, which was taken off the roof of a shop in Peckham, south London, less than an hour after it was unveiled.”

This last one appears to be genuine theft, not a government action. Hmm…. ds
