THIS, FROM WHITE HOUSE.GOV. What unmitigated clap-trap! What proof of ego-pandering lies!

The White House press release observes, “Unlike the previous administration, which wasted billions of taxpayer dollars on virtue signaling and ineffective grifts, the Trump Administration’s policies are rooted in the belief that Americans are the best stewards of our vast natural resources —no ‘Green New Scam’ required.”
“virtue signaling…” “ineffective grifts…” But for the lack of upper case, it could be the president’s own texting.

Fortunately, this batshit-crazy .gov narrative is not without correction in the nation’s press. Thus far…. Here are tidbits gleaned from a variety of sources including “Fact-Checking the ‘President Who Follows Science,’ ” The New York Times, April 30, 2025.

Rebecca Dzombak offers background: “In the first hours of his second term, he withdrew the United States from the Paris climate agreement and the World Health Organization. Since then, Mr. Trump’s administration has slashed budgets for federal science and health agencies, fired federal scientists, censored research and threatened universities, and dismissed hundreds of volunteer scientists who were preparing an important update to the country’s flagship climate assessment. The president has said his goals are to minimize the regulations that have stifled industry, and to promote more energy production, which he sees as central to economic growth. The president has said he wants the cleanest water and air while also drilling, mining and burning more oil, gas and coal.”
Maintaining Standards. The Times’ Lisa Friedman notes, “The Trump administration is planning to relax or repeal pollution standards on cars, power plants and chemical facilities, as well as overturn limits on soot from smokestacks, which has been linked to respiratory problems in humans and premature deaths. It is also planning to loosen or eliminate restrictions on emissions of mercury, a neurotoxin. And, the Environmental Protection Agency has also said it would roll back a rule that provides federal protections for rivers, streams and wetlands.”
Forest Management. Rebecca Dzombak writes, “But cuts made by the Trump administration to the U.S. Forest Service could also hamper the country’s ability to manage forests responsibly while climate change continues to increase the likelihood of wildfires.”
Why worry about climate change? After all, it’s a HOAX!
Protecting Public Lands. Friedman writes, “Although the United States produces more energy than it consumes, the Trump administration said it would fast-track approvals of drilling and mining on public lands, cutting the time spent on required environmental reviews before issuing permits for those projects. Reviews that typically take a year to complete would be finished in 14 days, officials said. The administration also plans to sell public lands for housing, something that environmental groups say could harm endangered species habitats.”
Gee. Whatever could go wrong?
Trump’s Anti-Wind-Farming. The Times’ Catrin Einhorn describes, “While it’s true that wind turbines kill some bats and birds, they also supply clean energy needed to transition humans away from planet-warming fossil fuels. Climate change is a major driver of biodiversity loss, and scientists warn that it will wreak even more damage to species in coming decades.”

NASA Cuts Joint Missions—Unless They’re Musk’s. Joey Roulette reports “Trump 2026 Space Budget Would Cancel NASA Rocket, Lunar Station,” Reuters, May 2, 2025. Roulette summarizes: “NASA’s current budget cut by 24 percent… likely to affect joint missions with Europe, Canada, Japan… But ‘Mars-focused’ programs would get $1 billion boost. “
hmm…. Do you know anyone who’s nuts about going to Mars ASAP?
Has Trump Read Budish? Federico Maccioni reports “Trump’s Stablecoin Chosen for $2 Billion Abu Dhabi Investment in Binance, Co-founder Says,” Reuters, May 1, 2025. Maccioni says, “It’s the latest in a series of Trump family crypto-related ventures, including a ‘meme coin’ launched in January, that have drawn criticism from government ethics experts and political opponents over potential conflicts of interest.”

Quite apart from conflicts of interest (these days, what quaint objections…), has anyone attempted telling Trump about Professor Eric Budish’s warning of limits of cryptocurrencies and blockchains?

On the other hand, economics is kinda scientific, ain’t it? ds
