APRIL 5 PROTEST POSTERS

THIS PAST SATURDAY WAS A NATIONAL DAY OF PROTEST against the chaos of Trump and his administration. The New York Times, April 5, 2025, reported “Mass Protests Across the Country Show Resistance to Trump.” NPR reported, April 5, 2025, “Nationwide ‘Hands Off!’ Protests Erupt Against Trump and Musk.”

Crowds stretched for nearly 20 blocks in Manhattan. Image by Adam Gray for The New York Times.

Shaila Dewan, Minho Kim, and Katie Benner recount in The New York Times, “They came out in defense of national parks and small businesses, public education and health care for veterans, abortion rights and fair elections. They marched against tariffs and oligarchs, dark money and fascism, the deportation of legal immigrants and the Department of Government Efficiency.”

“Demonstrators,” they continued, “had no shortage of causes as they gathered in towns and cities across the country on Saturday to protest President Trump’s agenda. Rallies were planned in all 50 states, and images posted on social media showed dense crowds in places as diverse as St. Augustine, Fla.; Salt Lake City and rainy Frankfort, Ky.”

Juliana Kim writes in NPR, “Organizers said more than 1,300 ‘Hands Off!’ rallies of varying sizes took place on Saturday.”

Many of the protesters carried posters expressing their dissatisfaction. Here’s a selection of posters gleaned from a variety of sources, together with my own observations in support of kindred spirits and communities throughout the nation. As Daughter Suz commented about her participation in Torrance, California, “It was so moving to realize we’re not alone.”

Voted for Trump? These young ladies ask a most relevant question.

As I’ve noted before, “The people of the United States have elected a Queens felon to our highest office.” And not to the overwhelming mandate he claims (indeed, it was one of the closest in history), but then I don’t expect truth from Trump.

Let’s Give Science a Try. This woman evidently shares my views on Science. I’m reminded of Trump’s recommending bleach for our Covid treatment (but you can bet your ass he got real scientific care when he succumbed).

Honoring a Doctor. This one evidently came from a State Capitol.

Rumors Die Hard. You may recall J.D. Vance’s alleged attempt at literature?

“Don’t try this at home, kids. We’re professionals.” And, note well, NPR has debunked this alternative fact. (No pun intended….) In any case, it’s a great poster.

Don’t Neglect the First Lady. Other posters were of the “Blink Twice If You Need Help” sentiment, but this one gave advice to the president himself.

Don’t Ignore Our DOGE Chain Saw (or Sieg Heil) Guy. Any protest would be incomplete without acknowledgement of the (unelected) Elon Musk.

Alas, How True. And the president’s cabinet would have consisted of capable people. There wouldn’t have been Signalgate. Nor off-again/on-again screwups of historical facts. Nor Queens mobster schemes of intimidating law firms. Nor a plunging stock market. Nor….

I Agree. Recall, it wasn’t all that long ago that America was respected around the world. Let’s hope that one day this respect will be warranted once more.

Yes, Paul. I continue to share your concern. ds

One of the best of the many smart signs at our April 5th rally was “They’re eating the checks. They’re eating the balances.”

Friends in Charlotte, NC, greater megapolis population of one million, report 3,000 to 4,000 at “Metrolina’s” April 5th rally. Same number turnout as our Walnut Creek, CA April 5th rally. Walnut Creek’s population is 70,000. But our town has half again more registered Democrats than Republicans.
